snoopymod had some kind of weird meltdown and turned on screening over text spam on this page but won't unscreen comments asking why the spam is still up... but also won't delete the comments that are still up. it's weird. anyway someone might want to take care of that

actual suggestions from someone that has moderated a large comm in the past, take it or leave it:

mods are way inconsistent. you need consistent internal rules with room for judgment calls. you may think that's the way it's set up now, but that's not how it's being executed. obvious trolling that skirts the edge of rule breaking will go on for pages or result in instant screening depending on who's on. w/ large groups u rly need to be as consistent as possible or it descends into chaos

do the mods even talk to each other outside anon? i've seen mods mention a few times that ppl talk to each other on im but it seems to be rly fleeting bc there are plenty of times when 1 mod is on and overwhelmed and has to leave in the middle of a huge problem. ppl should always be signed on to an im account when they're online even if they're not actively modding, that way other mods can easily contact others when they need help. if they don't want to be on call when they're online (barring obvious things like schoolwork, etc) they're not dedicated to modding. it shouldn't be a "oh pop in whenever you feel like it" thing. if you're committed to modding you should always be willing to come in and turn on screening and clean the place up. yes, i know it's a lot of work bc i've done it before. many hands make light work but a bunch of flakes result in nothing being done

don't engage ppl complaining. just don't. i'm not saying never post under the mod account, but when screening is on don't make a bunch of comments engaging w/ ppl asking the same thing over and over. make a statement once (if at all) and be done with it

related to the former, this shouldn't be a democracy. listening to ppl's complaints about what's going on doesn't have to mean immediately doing what some angry anon demands. this isn't their comm, if they hate it so much they can pack their bags and hit x since overall it's a lot better w/ dealing w/ *ist trolling than most of the internet

idk i just want to emphasize being consistent again. there are trolls regardless of how well u mod but ppl in general will toe the line if they know where the line is. rn where the line is moves every day and a lot of ppl probably don't even see what they're doing as trolling, since it was just fine to do it 3 hours ago/yesterday/last week
